Hi everyone!
Ok well we'll be updating this page some more in a few weeks and have details of how you can register online for some of the cosplay events at Nom-con. Hopefully this should all be in place by May 1st ;)
For now we have the much needed rules for the Cosplay Masquerade and Skits along with exciting details on the Eurocosplay competition!

EuroCosplay Competition
Thanks to the amazing people at London Expo, Nom-con will be given the chance to send a winning cosplayer on trip to London Expo next October with all travel and accommodation expenses paid for courtesy of London Expo! Each country in Europe is allowed 2 events to decide a winner and with Eirtakon picking the first candidate last November we are the second event for Ireland. Due to the nature of the competition only residents of Ireland will be able to enter and this can be done when you register for Nom-Con cosplay competition after May 1st

Nom-con General Cosplay Rules!
Costumes entered into the cosplay competition will be judged based on hand-made parts. You can have someone else wear it if you want, but it cannot be bought or commissioned from a professional dressmaker. This is only for judging of entries in the cosplay competition so don't worry you can still take part in the masquarade and not be judged.
Keep it tasteful, please. Skimpy costumes are allowed, but anything on display that would be hidden by a standard swimsuit will not be allowed
If you have a prop that is unwieldy, overly large, heavy or made of something that would hurt if it came crashing down on your skull, it'll need to be vetted by a member of staff. It may need to be checked in at the Ops desk, but it can be checked out for con photoshoots and the cosplay events.
Be mindful of the other congoers and their costumes. Body paint, makeup, pizza, beer etc. are very difficult to get out of costumes without a washing machine, and it's highly unlikely that anyone has one in their hotel room.
If you wish to participate in Nom-Con's Next Top Cosplayer (aka cosplay masquerade) or Uncle Nom's Super Special Variety Hour (aka cosplay skits), we will accept online applications as of May 1st. On the weekend we will accept registrations for the events for a short period on all 3 days of the con. But to avoid queuing and the possibility of missing out on the event we would ask that you use online registration. It also really helps us too as we hope to have music playing and that takes planning with only so much we can do shortly beforehand.
Participants in the aforementioned events must attend the rehearsals before the main events listed in the conbook. If you're not there to answer when we do a roll-call, you'll be crossed off the list. The rehearsals will be mainly to just quickly go over things with everyone to get the best out of the event and help it all run smoothly =)
Do not use your cosplay as an excuse to behave in a manner that bothers the other congoers. Example: If you're cosplaying as a character who likes to peep up the skirts of any woman he comes across, don't do this to the female (or occasionally male) congoers. Inappropriate behaviour will not be tolerated and may result in either a warning or have you removed from the convention and depending on the nature/seriousness could involve the garda. Just use common sense ok ^^;
Shoes must be worn at all times for health and safety reasons. If you're cosplaying as a character that goes barefoot, you are allowed to slip the shoes off for photoshoots, but nothing else.
Have plenty to eat and drink and be well rested before the events. The backstage waiting area may get crowded and stuffy and although the staff will do our best to keep everyone comfortable we can only do so much.
For safety reasons, when on stage cosplayers are not to leap or jump about to excess. Excess can be determined during rehearsals if anyone's confused. Also, no-one is to run or jump off the stage, or spray water or other fluids due to live wires.
If your costume is particularly bulky or otherwise makes it hard for you to get around, let us know in your application and we will assign a gopher to help you on and off the stage. If the costume is so unwieldy that even a gopher can't help you get around, you'll probably have to re-think it.
If you're performing in the cosplay events, you can leave your possessions backstage, but the convention is not responsible for anything lost/stolen/damaged as a result. The best thing to do is hand them over to a friend or check them into the cloakroom prior to the event.
If you have a cosplay emergency, the cosplay workshop opening times are listed in the conbook and the cosplay staff will have an emergency sewing kit on them. For any other emergencies, report to Ops!
Have fun! =)
Uncle Nom's Super Special Variety Hour (aka cosplay skits)
Just also to let everyone know Team Giblets will also be doing a skit just before the main skits! You can see more details of them on our guest page and dealers page =)
Rules And Guidelines:
*Time limit: Minimum of 1 minute and Maximum of 4 minutes (maximum time limit is subject to change depending on the number of entries etc.)
*Safety first! I will be judging if it's safe or not for you to perform an act with a prop that has the possibility of injuring you or others. If I feel that your act is dangerous in any shape or form, you will have to either change your act or not perform at all
*Media: You will need to send us any video package or music in advance of the convention dates with your submission, please upload it to a file sharing website or personal webspace and provide the link. Please note that we will ignore any audio/video submissions from sites that require a login. If you are struggling to find a host, then we suggest using file sharing sites such as www.megaupload.com - Alternatively, if under any circumstances you can't get your media online or for whatever other reason, then please provide your media on a disc or memory key and give it to me (through the event registration desk) before a specified deadline on the day of the event.
*Remember that any projection will be huge on the screen so any visuals you will be using on our projectors(video, images etc.) will need to be of decent quality. Please try keeping the file type to a generic, recognised type like .avi
*Entries should be sent in as soon as possible . If you have a lot of requirements then the more time we have to organise the better. Also there may be long queues on the day of the con and due to time constraints you might not get to perform.
*Rehearsals: If you wish to perform your skit then you must attend the rehearsals the morning of the skits. If you fail to attend the rehearsal I will not allow you to perform in the show.
Please understand that this strict rule is to ensure your skit can be executed by yourself and Nom-con staff without any major problems. It's to test your performance and how you would like to use your stage presence, to test any media you will be using, and to make sure you are sure and confident about your act and if you need to make any changes.
Rules may be updated some time in the future.
