Who's in charge of this convention?
Nom-con is run by a committee of volunteers, they are all anime and manga fans who wish to put on a great weekend for other fans of the genre. For more information please view the Staff Page.
How long does the convention last?
Our doors will open for registration at 3pm on Friday the 5th and the con will close somewhere between 9pm and 10pm on Sunday night.
What's happening at Nom-Con?
Nom-con hosts a wide array of events that will take place across the weekend. The most notable will be The Cosplay Masquerade, The Cosplay Debutantes Ball, The Anime Murder Mystery and of course the Cosplay Skits performance. There will be screenings of anime running for the duration of the con along with a video games room. There will be pannels and signings with our special guests. There will also be a large dealers hall open for purchase of dvd's, collectables and apparel open from Saturday morning until sunday evening.
Do I Have to cosplay?
Cosplay, or dressing up as characters (from games, movies, TV, comics, etc), is up to you - there are a few events such as competitions and parades for cosplayers to partake in. Without a costume, you can only watch these. Not everyone cosplays, so don't feel pressured to do so.
How do I sign up? When will registrations open?
Preregistration is now open and you can get your place reserved today. Go to the prereg page and follow the instructions to get signed up to ensure you get all the goodies that come with Preregistering. Prereg will close on the 30th of June 2012. You may can a pre-reg ticket with full refund anytime up until June 30th. After that we will only issue half refunds should cancellation occur.
I've pre-registered, how do I collect my tickets?
Simply bring along either Photo ID or a printout of your emailed paypal receipt/order number to the pre-reg desk on the weekend. Will I be able to buy a ticket on the day of the convention?
Yes.
How much does it cost?
€35 for a weekend pass (Friday to very late Sunday) and €20 for a Saturday or Sunday day pass. Friday is included free in any day or weekend ticket. If only going Friday then it's €10. This does not include the cost of overnight accommodation (see below)
I've bought a one day pass, can I upgrade?
Yes, you can upgrade when picking up your conbadge at registration. You will be required to pay the balance of €35 (€15 if you bought a €20 day pass) plus €2.
Are there any age limits?
No but we may for future years. If under 13 you must be accompanied by a guardian (someone 18+).
This event may not be suitable for children under the age of 13. Though we promote a clean atmosphere the majority of attendees will be in their mid - late teens or older and we cannot control the actions or behaviour of any attendee.
There will be however an 18+ policy for some late night events.
Do I have to prove my age to get in? What forms of ID do you accept?
No not for the day time, but you will need ID to get into late night events. You are required to present an acceptable form of photographic ID and proof of age in the name of your registration to staff. The only acceptable forms of ID are:
* Passport
* Photocard driving license (full or provisional, must include photographic card)
* EU National Identity Card
* Garda ID.
* Valid College Student Card (must have been valid at end of the previous term)
Expired ID is not accepted.
Unless clearly 25 years and over you will need ID in order to enter 18's+ late night events and get served at the bar.
What is a VIP Ticket?
VIP tickets are special tickets sold during charity auction from the previous year's convention. They provide the holder a full weekend pass, con bags, custom T-shirt Design, custom artwork on the con badges, are the first allowed into the trader's hall before it opens, meal with the special guests, first into all events, a free cake and photograph on each of the days the maid cafe and photography room are open.... and whatever other perks we decide to throw at them throughout the weekend.
How do I get there?
The Hotel is a 18 minute walk from St. Stephen's Green Shopping Centre. There are a variety of buses that serve the stop outside the hotel, including the 11 and 46a (both of which service O'Connel Street). Please see our venue page for more details.
Can I park at the venue?
Yes.
What kind of accommodation is available?
The Burlington has a variety of rooms available. More details will be found soon on our accommodation page.
There are also a variety of hostels nearby.
How do I book?
Accommodation booking will be handled by the Burlington Hotel, all the contact details will be found on the accommodation page when updated. Bookings must be made through this site to avail of discount rates.
Can I book by telephone?
Yes the contact number will be on the accommodation page but be sure to mention nom-con to receive special rates.
Can I share my single room with a friend to cut costs?
Yes. There are double & twin rooms available. These rooms are for 2 people. If there are more caught sharing a room, due to health and safety reasons, they reserve the right to escort you out.
Can I request a room with wheelchair access?
Yes. The Burlington has lifts to accommodate wheelchair accessibility.
