JAPANESE FILM FESTIVAL LAUNCHES IN DUBLIN ON 11 APRIL, TOURS TO CORK, GALWAY, LIMERICK AND WATERFORD

The 5th Japanese Film Festival will launch in Dublin’s Light House Cinema on 11 April, bringing the best of new Japanese cinema to audiences. Highlights from the programme will screen in Cork, Galway, Limerick and Waterford.
The Festival will this year feature 15 films, almost all of which are Irish premieres. The most acclaimed filmmakers from contemporary Japanese cinema are included in the packed programme, with a variety of themes, genres and topics to appeal to all audiences.
This year the ever-popular anime strand of the Japanese Film Festival has been expanded to meet the clear demand from audiences. Highlights include From Up On Poppy Hill, the latest from Gor? Miyazaki, son of the legendary Hayao Miyazaki. The film’s gorgeous, photo-realistic approach to architecture and nature is instantly recognisable as the work of Studio Ghibli.
Wolf Children, the hugely anticipated, beautifully animated adventure from JFF favourite Mamoru Hosoda and 009 Re: Cyborg, the big screen adaptation of the much-loved, long running Japanese TV series, are presented in partnership with our friends at Scotland Loves Animation.
Venue and ticket sales information will be available at www.accesscinema.ie from Thursday 28 March
The Embassy of Japan, access>CINEMA and the Ireland Japan Association are the co-organisers of the festival, with the support of The Japan foundation.
Previous Festivals have boasted sell-out screenings in all locations, and the organisers expect this year to be no different, with a carefully selected programme designed to intrigue, educate and entertain.
“We’re aware of the appetite around the country for world cinema through our day-to-day work with film clubs,” commented Maeve Cooke, Director of access>CINEMA. “Given the nature of the highly acclaimed films that are being consistently produced in Japan, it’s great that we have the opportunity to organise a festival which can bring this quality international cinema to audiences who have always been massively supportive of the Japanese Film Festival. If you’re not familiar with Japanese cinema, we encourage you to experience some of the richly diverse films from this extraordinary country.”
The Festival includes some thought-provoking and challenging titles, aiming to foster a deeper understanding of Japanese culture and society amongst Irish citizens and to strengthen the cultural ties between the two countries. My Back Page tells the dramatic and compelling story of a young reporter caught up in the student protests in Tokyo University in the 60s. Just Pretended To Hear is the sensitive, moving story of an unlikely bond that forms between two young girls, one recently bereaved and the other a special needs student.
The Festival also caters for viewers in search of pure escapism and entertainment. Box office sensation Thermae Romae is a mad-cap time-travel comedy with a twist, whilst Ace Attorney is the latest from the dazzlingly inventive director Takashi Miike. This comic mystery caper, an adaptation of the best-selling Nintendo DS game, finds hilarity in the most unlikely of places – the courtroom.

Street Fighter x Mega Man

That's right! Capcom has just announced, in celebration of Street Fighter's 25th Anniversary and anticipating Mega Man's 25 Anniversary, that they will be releasing a fan-made crossover of Street Fighter and Mega Man. Starting December 17th, Street Fighter X Mega Man will be available for FREE through Capcom's official website.

From the title, you might be expecting another fighting game crossover, but this time they've taken the platforming gameplay from Mega Man and created levels and boss fights based on Street Fighter.

“Our fans have been so supportive of the 25th Anniversary efforts on Street Fighter, that we wanted to provide one last surprise and token of our appreciation,” said Christian Svensson, SVP of Consumer Software at Capcom USA. “This game symbolizes the passion and dedication of our fans and with the 25th Anniversary of Mega Man coming up, we felt it was our duty to bring this wonderful experience to everyone who has shared the last 25 years with us and both of these celebrated franchises.”

Street Fighter X Mega Man was created by Seow Zong Hui, aka "Sonic", from Singapore with direction and support from Capcom. The game stars Mega Man and features 8 Street Fighter themed levels and boss fights. In addition to it's 8-bit look and feel, the game features an original sountrack by Luke Esquivel, aka "A_Rival" which features mash-ups of several themes from Street Fighter and Mega Man.

From the screenshots released, we can see that Blanka, Chun-Li, C. Viper, Dhalsim, Rolento, Rose, Ryu and Urien will be bosses. As is par for the course, the Blue Bomber will receive new weapons from each character after defeating them. Our screenshot gallery can be found here.

The Friends of St Luke's was established to raise funds for the comfort, cure and care of patients at the St Luke's Radiation Oncology Network Dublin.

The St. Luke’s Radiation Oncology Network comprises three cancer treatment centres in Dublin:

St Luke’s Hospital Rathgar (including Oakland Lodge)

St Luke’s Radiation Oncology Centre at Beaumont Hospital

St Luke’s Radiation Oncology Centre at St. James’s Hospital

I think pretty much everyone at Nom-con can agree in saying that cancer has affected either themselves or someone close to them. These facilities and the services that St. Lukes provides towards cancer patients need your support to help maintain so we at Nom-con hope you'll all join us in helping support this worthy cause and add a small contribution to the fight against cancer.

Many thanks,

The Nom-con Committee
